Description ADR 2-Day Refresher Training (Basic Tanker Specialization) Course Description This two-day comprehensive ADR Refresher Course is designed for drivers who are currently certified to transport dangerous goods by road in packages, IBCs, loose bulk, and road tankers. Day 1 focuses on updating the core knowledge required for all dangerous goods transport (Basic), while Day 2 is dedicated to the specific regulatory and operational requirements for the transport of dangerous goods in road tankers. The course ensures participants are familiar with the latest ADR regulatory changes, safety procedures, and responsibilities, allowing them to renew their existing ADR Training Certificate, including the Tanker Specialisation. Course Objectives Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be able to: Reinforce and update core knowledge on the classification, documentation, marking, and handling of dangerous goods across all classes. Identify and apply the specific additional regulations and operational requirements for transporting dangerous goods in road tankers. Understand and implement correct procedures for the construction, approval, stability, loading, and unloading of road tankers. Implement advanced safety measures and emergency response procedures specific to tanker incidents. Pass both the Basic and the Tanker Specialization refresher examinations to renew their full ADR Training Certificate. Course Content The course is divided into two distinct days, covering both the Basic core content and the Tanker Specialisation. Day 1: Basic Refresher (Packages, IBCs, and Loose Bulk) – Sun 17th May 2026 Module 1: General Requirements Latest ADR amendments and updates Duties of the driver, consignor, and carrier Security provisions and general safety measures Module 2: Core ADR Knowledge Review of the nine dangerous goods classes (Classes 2-6, 8, 9) Marking, labelling, and placarding of packages, IBCs, and vehicles Documentation (Transport Document, Written Instructions in Accident) Documentation (Transport Document, Written Instructions in Accident) Module 3: Operations & Safety Requirements for vehicle equipment (PPE, fire extinguishers) Safe handling, segregation, and stowage procedures Emergency procedures for non-tanker incidents Day 2: Tanker Specialization Refresher – Fri 22nd May 2026 Module 4: Tanker Construction & Approval Types of tankers and fixed tanks (e.g., fixed tanks, demountable tanks) Tanker design codes and required vehicle certificates (e.g., certificate of approval) Periodic inspection and testing requirements for tanks Module 5: Tanker Operations Specific requirements for loading, filling ratios, and maximum degree of filling Stability, surging, and securing loads in tankers Vapour return and venting systems Module 6: Tanker Safety & Documentation Additional vehicle marking and placarding requirements for tankers Specific equipment and PPE for tanker operations Emergency response and actions unique to a road tanker accident Who Should Attend This course is mandatory for ADR-certified drivers whose current ADR Training Certificate, including the Tanker Specialisation, is due to expire. It is specifically designed for drivers who wish to continue transporting dangerous goods in road tankers, in addition to packages, IBCs, and/or loose bulk. Pre-requisites for Attending the Course The participant must have a valid ADR Training Certificate, including the Tanker Specialisation. The current certificate must be valid until after the test date (there is strictly no grace period). The refresher training course can be taken in the last year of the certificate’s validity. Course Assessment The assessment consists of two separate exams: Basic Core Exam (Covered Day 1 Content): 36 multiple-choice questions. To pass, the driver must correctly answer a minimum of 8 questions in each section of 12. Tanker Specialisation Exam (Covered Day 2 Content): 24 multiple-choice questions. The exam is divided into sections. To pass, the driver must correctly answer a minimum of 8 questions in each section of 12. Course Certification Upon successful completion of the 2-day course and passing both the Basic Core and the Tanker Specialization examinations, the driver will be awarded a new ADR Training Certificate with the Tanker endorsement. The new certificate will be valid for five years, commencing from the expiry date of the old certificate.
